Shadows of Sin, Rochelle Krich, Avon, $7.50.

This is a very fine novel - my favorite, in fact - in Krich's strong Jessica Drake series. Jessie is an LAPD homicide cop who has a rich personal life - not least is her awakening discovery of her Jewish heritage. In this novel, which is really a character study, Jessie must solve the apparently senseless murder of a doctor and his receptionist. There's a twist at the end which is somewhat heartbreaking - but Krich has been more than fair in laying the groundwork for it.

If you enjoy Rochelle Krich, you may also enjoy Jonathan and Faye Kellerman and Lynn Hightower.
