The Jazz Bird, Craig Holden, Simon & Schuster, $25.00

An unlikely entrant in the historical mystery genre, Holden nevertheless infuses 1920's Cincinnati with a real sense of
time and place as he traces the self destructive path of a "Jazz Bird"- a well born girl who throws her society life away
to marry a fabulous bootlegger. Holden forces the reader to draw their own conclusions at the end of this somewhat
ambiguous, haunting, beautifully written novel.
